George, Harold Lee

George, Harold Lee

(1893–1986) aviator; born in Somerville, Mass. A test pilot and instructor in the early era of flight, he directed the U.S. Army Air Transport Command during World War II. His responsibilities included delivering troops and matériel to all the world's combat zones and mobilizing U.S. airlines to deliver war passengers and freight.
