Gheorghe-Gheorghiu-Dej

 

formerly Oneşti, a city in eastern Rumania, in Bacău District. Population, 39,700 (1969). The city has an oil refinery and a petrochemical combine that produces rubber, plastics, soda products, and chemical poisons. The Borzeşti Steam Power Plant is in Gheorghe-Gheorghiu-Dej. A gas line links the city with central Transylvania.
