Gilbert, Henry F.

Gilbert, Henry F. (Franklin Belknap)

(1868–1928) composer; born in Somerville, Mass. A student of MacDowell, he absorbed African-American music and was one of the first to use this and other American material in concert works, opera, and ballet.
