Within these structures prehnite is found as botryoidal coatings, isolated spheres and thick carpets composed of prehnite pseudomorphs after
glauberite and anhydrite.
Period 2, Saline Period: The saline minerals anhydrite and (minor) glauberite began to form by replacing some of the basalt surrounding the gas cavities.
In places, the quartz forms a coating over the anhydrite and glauberite crystals.
To end on a comparatively light note from Down Under, Chris Payne of Gondwana Gems & Minerals (6 Parkview Drive, Blakeview, South Australia) was able to cover several square feet of a table in his room in the InnSuites with a new find of
glauberite crystal specimens, taken out of Like Gillies, Lochiel, South Australia, between 1988 and 1991.
Puente, Covina, CA 91722); and calcite crystals from the Holbrook mine, Bisbee, and copper-stained calcite pseudomorphs after
glauberite from Camp Verde, both available from Howard Van Iderstein (Cardinal Minerals, 2 Tulip Lane, Huntington, CT 06484).
You've seen the humble, off-white, opaque, chisel-shaped pseudomorphs of calcite after
glauberite from Camp Verde, Yavapai County, Arizona; well, the Sullivans had about 10 floater clusters of these averaging 6 or 7 cm across, and colored sky-blue by copper staining (one alone is medium green, presumably from malachite).
