Gonionemus Vertens

an invertebrate animal of class Hydrozoa, phylum Coelenterata. The umbrella of the medusa is transparent and yellowish-green with a diameter of 15–18 mm (sometimes to 25 mm). Along the edge of the umbrella there are approximately 80 tentacles with stinging cells, whose poisonous products cause a severe burn in man; fatal cases have been known. G. vertens is found in the Sea of Japan and off the shores of the Kuril Islands, usually inhabiting the shoals in thickets of eelgrass.

In this paper we present the finding of another invasive hydromedusa, Gonionemus vertens Agassiz, 1862 (Hydrozoa, Limnomedusae), found for the first time in the southern hemisphere.
