Gorbunov-Posadov, Mikhail Ivanovich

 

Born Jan. 1 (Feb. 8), 1908, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the field of soil mechanics. Doctor of Technical Sciences (1947) and a professor (1954).

Gorbunov-Posadov graduated from Moscow State University in 1930, and works in the Scientific Research Institute of Foundation Beds and Underground Structures. He developed a widely used method of computing plates and beams on an elastic foundation and investigated the stability of foundations in friable soils. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and other medals.
