Diagnosed as an isolated solitary orbital eosinophilic
granuloma, our patient received 12 cycles of vinblastine chemotherapy without evidence of any complications and without evidence of any recurrence over the 2 years of follow-up.
The most common type of
granuloma was tuberculous
granulomas 63 (73.28%) followed by
granuloma of cutaneous leishmaniasis 08 (9.30%), fungal
granulomas 05 (5.81%), foreign body
granulomas 04 (4.65%), leprosy 03 (3.84%) and one each (1.16%) of necrobiotic
granuloma, sarcoid
granuloma and malakoplakia.
The most common pathology among them is the peri-apical
granuloma, comprised by a mass of chronic inflammatory tissue, in which isolated nests of epithelium can be found.
Human neurobrucellosis with intracerebral
granuloma caused by a marine mammal Brucella spp.
A
granuloma is an organised structure consisting of highly differentiated cells such as multi-nucleated giant cells, epithelioid cells and foamy cells surrounded by lymphocytes.
The two specimens (before and after FDT), were compared with respect to the basement membrane pigmentation, percentage of dermis occupied by
granuloma or inflammatory infiltrate per average low power field, presence of protective cells such as lymphocytes and epithelioid cells, the presence of acid fast bacilli and evidence of dermal fibrosis.
Lobular capillary hemangioma (pyogenic
granuloma) occurs in all age groups, children to older adult, but are more frequently encountered in females in their second decade due to hormonal changes.
A study revealed that
granuloma annulare might be caused by a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction.
The patient subsequently underwent microdirect laryngoscopy, excision of a left true vocal fold
granuloma, angiolytic KTP laser treatment of the attachment site, and dexamethasone injection.
