A new Hubble Space Telescope view of Jupiter, taken on June 27, 2019, reveals the giant planet's trademark
Great Red Spot, and a more intense color palette in the clouds swirling in Jupiter's turbulent atmosphere than seen in previous years.
Using observations from NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility in Hawaii, the researchers found that the temperature over the
Great Red Spot is about 1,300[degrees].
The head of one of these storms--popularly called "great white spots," in analogy to the
Great Red Spot of Jupiter--can be as large as Earth.
The planet's famous
Great Red Spot is well placed for observation on the nights of February 7, 9, 12, 14, 17.
