Gukovo

 

a city (until 1955, a settlement) in Rostov Oblast, RSFSR. Railroad station on the Likhaia-Debal’tsevo line. Population, 65,000 (1970). Coal is mined in the area, which is part of the Donets coal basin. Gukov has a brick works, a plant producing reinforced concrete mine supports, a rubber plant, a garment factory, a knitted goods factory, and a textile and haberdashery factory. There is also a construction technicum in the city.
