Gvardeisk

 

(until 1946, Tapiau), a city (since 1722), the center of Gvardeisk Raion, Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR; located on the right bank of the Pregolia River (empties into Kaliningrad Bay in the Baltic Sea). Railroad station 38 km east of Kaliningrad. The city produces textiles for haberdashery, meat, pasta products, confectionery, butter, and cheese and has a logging and timber distribution establishment.
