Haines Borough Library, this fundraiser and includes music, refreshments, art project for kids, the lighting of the tree, and a silent auction and raffle--local businesses decorate small Christmas trees with art, jewelry, food, gift certificates, tools, etc.

Haines Borough administrator, announced the appointment.

Haines Borough Public Library has been named "Best Small Library" of 2005 by the Library Journal and has received a $10,000 prize from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The number of businesses operating in the
Haines Borough likewise has surged, from 263 in 1989, to 354 in 1993 and 495 in 1994.
Within the region, the unemployment rate fluctuated from a low of 6 percent for the Juneau Borough to a high of 17.1 percent for the
Haines Borough. Haines' high unemployment rate was the result of the 1991 closing of the local sawmill.
