Hami

 

a city in Northwest China, in the Sinkiang-Uighur Autonomous Region, in the Hami Basin. Population, more than 100,000 (1970). Hami is a transportation center on the Lanhsin railroad and the Lanchou-Urumchi highway. It has a metallurgical plant and a fossil-fuel-fired steam power plant. Coal and iron ore are mined in the area.
