Location:At the end of Heckscher State Parkway, in the East Islip/Great River Area in Suffolk County.
Facilities:69 campsites (vehicles must be under 11 feet high to enter campground), showers, picnic areas, picnic pavilions, playground, playing fields, food concession, multi-use trails (20 miles), nature trail, beach, swimming pool, boat launch ramp (é).
Activities:Camping, boating, fishing, bay and pool swimming, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, recreation and nature programs.
Special Features:Located on Great South Bay, park attacts more than a million visitors a year. Its campgrounds were ranked among the top 100 in the US in 2005.

This two-day outdoor family event is held in Heckscher State Park in early October, and admission for the public is absolutely free.
