Half of the study population had detectable [gamma]-HCH in serum, followed by p,p'-DDT (42.8%), [beta]-HCH (41.3%), p,p'-DDE (39.5%),
heptachlor (32.9%), a-HCH (30.9%), and endrin (30.6%).
Dieldrin and
heptachlor epoxide were measured by Dewailly et al.
Trace levels of a-HCH, Y-HCH, endosulfan I, endosulfan II, endosulfan sulfate,
heptachlor,
heptachlor epoxide, p,p'-DDE, chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin and cyfluthrin were detected in water with the averages of (0.77-0.114, 1.15-1.26, 0.78-1.31, 0.80-1.44, 0.15-1.04, 0.91-1.24, 0.84-1.53, 0.60-1.44, 0.12-1.03, 0.26-1.04 and 0.11-0.23) ng/l, respectively.
The greatest mean values were measured for MeHg (1100 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]) and [summation]-DDX (600 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]), followed by methoxychlor (240 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]), [summation]-chlordane (72 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]),
heptachlor (70 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]), [summation]-HCH (54 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]) and HCB (48 [micro]g x [kg.sup.-1]).
The tested OCPs included pp-DDT and its metabolites pp-DDD and pp-DDE; hexachlorohexanes (HCHs) including [alpha] HCH and [gamma] HCH;
heptachlor and
heptachlor epoxide; aldrin and endrin; chlordane, methoxychlor, and HCB.
The mixed standard of OCPs (methoxychlor, [alpha]-endosulfan, [beta]-endosulfan, [alpha]-, [beta]-, [gamma]-, and [delta]-hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH),
heptachlor, dieldrin, aldrin, endrin, endosulfan sulphate, p,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDT, and gamma-chlordane) was obtained from Supelco (PA, USA).
Despite numerous attempts to kill the complaint over multiple years, SACE's contention--that potentially dangerous carcinogenic chemicals, including
heptachlor and tetrachloroethylene, could possibly leak into drinking water--stood.
However, OCPs (lindane, aldrin,
heptachlor, epoxide, HCB, eldrin, chlordane and DDT) were present above the recommended limit established by FAO/WHO [13].
The approach is a combination of "interspecies chemical warfare" and "physical barriers." Back in the old days, we had fabulous termiticides called chlordane and
heptachlor. What made them so fabulous was that the little buggers--the termites--couldn't detect their presence and they would wander through them and die.
The twenty-five OCPs (AccuStandard, Inc., NY, US) used in this study were as follows: aldrin; cis-chlordane; trans-chlordane; oxychlordane; o,p -DDD; p,p'-DDD; o,p'-DDE; p,p'-DDE; o,p'-DDT; p,p'-DDT; dieldrin; endosulfan I; endosulfan II (ES II); endrin; [alpha]-hexachlorocyclohexane ([alpha]-HCH); [beta]-HCH; [gamma]-HCH; 5-HCH;
heptachlor; cis-heptachlor epoxide (cHCP); trans-heptachlor epoxide (tHCP); hexachlorobenzene (HCB); isodrin; methoxychlor (MOC); and mirex.
Two major chlordanerelated transformation products,
heptachlor epoxide and oxychlordane, represented an average of 73 and 76% of [SIGMA]CHL in moose liver in Dehcho and South Slave samples, respectively.
