Location:In Martin County, off the east coast of Florida.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, trail, boat launch, nature center, museum.

Special Features:One of the most productive sea turtle nesting areas in the United States, the refuge provides habitat to the endangered leatherback, green, and threatened loggerhead sea turtles.
Habitats: 967 acres of beach, sand dunes, and mangroves on Jupiter Island and a sand pine scrub forest on the mainland.
Access: Daylight hours year round.
Wild life: Sea turtles, brown pelicans, ospreys, and a variety of shorebirds and songbirds.

The masses of toothy macks that ravaged bait schools last month along beaches from Vero to Stuart have put on the brakes to hunker down in a favorite winter hole--the Peck Lake reefs just off Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. Though it will be a circus on weekends, with both sport fishermen and commercial castnetters pounding the fish, the numbers of macks there are staggering.
