Microsoft's free email services Outlook.com and
Hotmail have reportedly suffered an outage across Europe on Monday, according to reports.
Microsoft's deputy general counsel, John Frank, said that the company would meet a more rigorous standard before peeking into a non-employee's
Hotmail account.
Microsoft's
Hotmail, the free webmail service used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, was phased out Friday, as the US tech giant completed a rebranding to Outlook.com.
Microsoft is in the middle of moving users over from its aging but popular
Hotmail service to its new Outlook.com.
"Starting today, Microsoft will begin to upgrade every
Hotmail user to Outlook.com.," the company said in a statement.
This seems to be in response to the complaints from people who use
Hotmail, which serves banner advertisements.
Microsoft
HoTMaiL was originally launched in 1996, and had around 369m users by March 2011.
According to leaked screenshots, new
Hotmail not only features a cleaner interface but also a new branding as "Newmail".
"We're aware of an outage impacting
Hotmail, SkyDrive, and our other properties.
"Got my emails and personal folders back , I know some of us will not trust
Hotmail , but this is the case with any online services , and in some cases it's very hard to change our emails because it's related to many things , so what I did , I just create Gmail account and forward copy of my
hotmail to it," commented a
Hotmail user on Facebook.
