Hufuf, al-

 

(also Hofuf), a city in Saudi Arabia. Former capital of Hasa (Eastern Province). Population, approximately 100,000. Al-Hufuf is a transportation center on a branch of the highway that passes through Riyadh to link Jidda, on the Red Sea, with the port of Ras al-Tannurah, on the Persian Gulf. Al-Hufuf has a railroad station. The city is a center of Hasa’s cottage industry; woolen fabrics, cloaks, silver and gold articles, and other goods are produced. Al-Hufuf has a date-processing plant.
