Size: 6,300,000 acres.
Location:Scattered parcels across Nevada and into eastern California. Accessible by US 93, 395, 6, 50, and 95. Nearby cities/towns include Ely, Elko, Las Vegas, Reno, Tonopah, and Winnemucca.
Facilities:70+ campgrounds, dispersed camping, picnic areas, trails (2,000 miles).
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, ORV riding, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Largest national forest outside Alaska. Areas of interest include Jarbridge Wilderness, Ruby Mountains, crystal clear lakes high in the Sierra, aspen stands on Table Mountain, sagebrush lowlands, alpine meadows, streams, massive canyons, and Mount Charleston. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (see entry in national trails section) passes through the forest south of Lake Tahoe.
