Huntsville

 

a city in the southeastern USA, in the state of Alabama, north of the Tennessee River. Population, 140,000 (1975; with suburbs, 287,000). Industry employs 24,000 persons (1974). Huntsville is a center of research and development in rocketry and explosives. The city’s industries produce rockets and rocket fuel, chemicals, textiles, foodstuffs, and military equipment.
