an increase in all or in individual incretory functions of the pituitary.

Hyperpituitarism is manifested in disorders of growth and development, such as gigantism, acromegaly, and impairment of sexual activity. The condition may arise as the result of pituitary tumors or growth of the pituitary tissue, as well as during pregnancy. Hormonal therapy, and in certain cases radiation therapy or surgery, are used in treatment.
