This inequigranular (to subequigranular) rock is
hypidiomorphic to allotriomorphic.
They are medium to fine grain-sized, with equigranular and occasionally porphyritic
hypidiomorphic textures (up to 10% of plagioclase phenocrysts).
The Talavera sample shows large anhedral poikilitic orthopyroxene crystals, leading to a
hypidiomorphic subophitic to ophitic texture.
Thin sections of bedrock samples taken from random locations in the Scrag Lake pluton outside of the North structure consist of medium- to coarse-grained
hypidiomorphic biotite monzogranite.
Most rocks under the microscope are medium-grained
hypidiomorphic to allotriomorphic subequigranular and composed of plagioclase hornblendic amphibole opaque iron oxide quartz and in some biotite titanite and rare perthite.
The texture is medium to coarse-grained
hypidiomorphic or allotriomorphic (2-10 mm crystal size).
Wehrlite is medium-coarse-grained and shows granular porphyritic and
hypidiomorphic texture (Fig.
Hypidiomorphic plagioclase grains between 0.2 and 0.8 mm in size on average (sporadically can grow up to 1.4 mm) are equal to oligoclase and have albite-like lamellae pattern.
In thin section, large perthitic K-feldspar megacrysts are in a
hypidiomorphic granular matrix of normal to oscillatory zoned oligoclase, perthitic orthoclase-microcline, quartz, dark brown to orange-brown biotite, pinitized cordierite, and minor muscovite.
The gabbro-norites are sub- equigranular, medium- to coarse-grained,
hypidiomorphic to idiomorphic and massive, i.e.
Texture is typically
hypidiomorphic equigranular and, locally, inequigranular to porphyritic, especially near the margins as described above.
The rocks are typically fine to medium grained with
hypidiomorphic granular to locally ophitic texture involving amphibole and plagioclase (Fig.
