Hypofunction

 

insufficiently intense activity (function) of a given organ, tissue, or system that can also disrupt the vital processes of the organism. (For example, hypofunction of the thyroid gland—diminished output of the hormone thyroxine—results in a lowered metabolic rate and myxedema.)
