III-V semiconductor
(3-5 semiconductor) A III-V semiconductor is a compound such as gallium and nitride (GaN) or gallium and arsenide (GaAs). Gallium has three (III) valence electrons, while nitride and arsenide have five (V). Providing high electron mobility, III-V semiconductors are used in high-frequency and high-power applications such as microwave amplifiers. GaN and GaAs are used for a variety of transistors, including bipolar junction (BJT), enhancement-mode MOSFET and high electron mobility (HEMT).
