Iangier

 

a city under oblast jurisdiction in Syr Darya Oblast, Uzbek SSR, at the intersection of the Great Uzbek Highway and the Iuzhnaia Golodnaia Steppe Canal. Railroad station. Population, 19,000(1974).

Iangier was founded in 1957 as part of the development of Golodnaia Steppe. The city has a building-materials and structures combine, a plant producing clay drainage pipes, an asphalt-concrete plant, and food-processing enterprises. Educational institutions include a municipal engineering technicum and a branch of the Tashkent Institute for Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture. The Museum of the Development of Golodnaia Steppe is located in Iangier.
