Idrija

a city in Yugoslavia, in the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. Population, 6,000 (1967). Located on the Idrica River, in a mountainous region. Mercury has been mined in Idrija since the 15th century (it is now the site of one of the biggest mines in the world, accounting for approximately one-tenth of the total world mercury production).
