Crop growing, livestock keeping, hunting and gathering are the main economic activities of the Mbulu district natives who are the
Iraqw, the Datoga (who are also called the Barbaig or Mang'ati) and Hadzabe who are also called the Tindiga.
I was in Tanzania's Great Rift Valley to see the
Iraqw people, (pronounced Iraky) a shy and retiring people, who claim descent from those of modern day Iraq, migrating to Africa centuries ago, but having little in common with that home country today.

The tree has multiple names in Kenyan local languages: It is called Sandali in Swahili; Muthithi in Kikuyu, Ol asasiau in Maasai, and (in Tanzania) Kitandare in Chagga and Kipaat in
Iraqw.
Other groups of ancient peoples that live in the Serengeti area are: * The Hadzabe, who move from place to place looking for food and water; * The
Iraqw and the Suikuma peoples, both traditionally farming cultures; and * The Kuria tribe, who are known for their special ear decorations.
We then exemplify our claim by a comparative analysis in some detail of incorporation-like phenomena in two unrelated languages: object-verb constructions in
Iraqw, a Cushitic language spoken in Tanzania, and so-called "separable noun-verb compounds" in Modern Standard Dutch.
Further into the countryside, we reached the Mbulu District, heartland of the
Iraqw people in the Mamaisara hills.
