Ishkashim

 

a mountain range in the southwestern part of thePamirs, in Tadzhik SSR. It stretches for about 90 km along theright bank of the Piandzh River. The highest point is Maiakov-skii Peak, with an elevation of 6, 096 m. There is an ice cover ofrecent origin. The mountains are composed chiefly of gneiss, amphibolite, and other Pre-Cambrian metamorphic rock. Theslopes are covered with mountain steppe and desert, and in thedeep river valleys there are sparse stands of juniper. The regionhas hot mineral springs, at one of which, Garm-Chashma, thereis a health resort.
