A dormant volcano, La Malintzi forms part of the cluster of mountains east of Mexico City including Popocatepetl and
Ixtaccihuatl, yet stands further east just north of Puebla.
If there is a ubiquitous Mexican/Chicana icon whose image has even more impact than Popocapetl and
Ixtaccihuatl, this is without a doubt the Virgen de Guadalupe, or La Virgen for short.
In the newer slum of Chalco the poorest of the lost-city poor are rapidly populating another ancient lake bed, presided over by Popocatepetl and
Ixtaccihuatl, two volcanoes that, in Mexican folklore, were once human lovers.
Among the remoter peaks listed are: Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Popocatepetl,
Ixtaccihuatl, and Orizaba.
