Jáchymov

 

a balneological health resort in Czechoslovakia, in the Czech Socialist Republic; located on the southern slopes of the Erzgebirge, 20 km north of Karlovy Vary. Summers are warm, with an average July temperature of 17°C, and winters are mild, with an average January temperature of –2.6°C; annual precipitation totals 1,000 mm. Jáchymov has radioactive (271 m curie/1) and thermal springs (28.6°C), the hydrocarbonate-sodium-calcium waters of which are mainly used for baths and bathing in medical swimming pools. Disorders of the vascular system, musculoskeletal system, and the peripheral nervous system are treated. The resort has balneological clinics, sanatoriums, and various hotels, including boarding hotels.
