Jaghbub, Al-

 

an oasis in the Libyan desert, near the Libyan and Egyptian border. Located in a hollow 15 m below sea level. Population, under 1,000.

Al-Jaghbub is a hub of caravan routes connecting the north of Libya with the north of Egypt. Date palms are cultivated. It is a religious center for the Sanusi Muslims.
