Kalopanax Septemlobum

 

a tree of the family Aralia. The height reaches 25 m, the trunk diameter 50-80 cm. The young trunks and branches have thorns. The leaves are on long stalks and are large, with five to seven lobes. The flowers are small, yellowish-white, in umbrella shapes forming large racemes. The fruits are juicy, round, and black, with two small seeds. The trees thrive in bright warm climates. They grow in Japan, China, and Korea; in the USSR they are found in the Far East (the southern Primor’e, Sakhalin, and the southern Kuril Islands). They bear pollen. The wood of the tree is used in cabinetry and plywood manufacture and for aircraft building.
