Kaminaljuyu

 

a major cultic center of the ancient Maya in the highlands of Guatemala (near present-day Guatemala City), which flourished between the second and ninth centuries. Kaminaljuyu contains the remains of pyramids, stelae with inscriptions, tombs, and burial vaults. Excavations have unearthed figured and painted pottery and articles made of stone, bone, and shells.
