Kaposvár

 

a city in southwestern Hungary, south of Lake Balaton; administrative center of the megye (district) of Somogy. Population, 54, 000 (1970). Kaposvár is a transportation junction. There is light industry (cotton-spinning and clothing factories) and food industry (flour, sugar, meat-packing and dairy, and cheese-making), as well as production of electrical-engineering items (transformers, cable, and so on) and apparatus, parquet, and cement.
