Kargat

 

a city (until 1965, a settlement), and administrativecenter of Kargat Raion, Novosibirsk Oblast, RSFSR, on theKargat River. Railroad station on the Barabinsk-Novosibirskline. There is a dairy for the production of butter and cheese anda meat-packing plant.


Kargat

 

a river in Novosibirsk Oblast, RSFSR, right tributaryof the Chulym River (Lake Chany basin). Length from thesource of Kargatenok River, 387 km; basin area, approximately7, 200 sq km. It flows through the Barabinsk Lowlands and is fedprimarily by melted snow. Its average annual rate of flow is 8.54cu m per sec at the village of Nizhnii Kargat, 36 km from itsmouth.The river freezes over in November and thaws in thesecond half of April. The city of Kargat is located along itscourse.
