Karymskaia Sopka

Karymskaia Sopka
an active volcano in the Vostochnyi Range of the Kamchatka Peninsula (USSR). It is a regular truncated cone (elevation, about 1, 500 m) with a crater that gives off hot gases. The volcano is located in the caldera of an ancient parent volcano (the caldera is up to 5 km in diameter). Theyoung cone is composed of andesite-dacite lavas and ashes. Some 22 eruptions are known to have occurred since 1852. Lake Karymskoe is located in the caldera of a neighboring ancient volcano.
