Kelmė

 

a city, the administrative center of Keime Raion, Lithuanian SSR. Located on the Kražante River (Nemunas basin), on a highway 15 km west of the Tytuvénai railroad station on the Šiauliai-Sovetsk line and 44 km southwest of Šiauliai. A flax-processing plant, a creamery and cheese dairy, and a branch of the Kaunas knitted-goods factory are there. Keime also has a museum of local lore.
