Khwandamir, Ghiyas al-Din ibn Humam al-Din al-Husayn

 

(also Ghiyas al-Din Muhammad Khwandamir). Born 1475 in Herat; died 1535 (according to some sources, 1536 or 1537). Persian historian. Grandson and student of Mirkhwand.

Initially the court historian of the Timurids, Khwandamir became the court historian of Shah Ismail I Safavi in 1507 and of the Great Moguls in 1528. His principal works include The Friend of Biographies (Habib al-siyar), which is a source for the history of Iran and adjacent countries from the late 15th century to 1524, A Collection of Biographies of Famous Viziers (Dastur al-vozara), and A Collection of the Laws of Humayun (Humayunname and Kanun-e Humayuni).
