In central ND, east of Bismarck; organized Jan 4, 1873 (prior to statehood) from Buffalo County, which was discontinued. Name Origin: For Jefferson Parrish Kidder (1815-83), VT legislator and lieutenant governor, MN legislator (1863-64), and associate justice of the Dakota territorial supreme court (1865-76; 1879-83)
