Kilby, Jack S.
Kilby, Jack S.
(1923– ) electrical engineer; born in Jefferson City, Mo. He developed thick film hybrid circuits and compatible transistors (1947–58). Working for Texas Instruments (1958–70), he invented the monolithic integrated circuit in 1958 and later the first hand-held calculator. In 1970, he became an independent inventor and consultant.
