Korobov, Ivan Kuz’mich

 

Born 1700 or 1701; died 1747 in Moscow. Russian architect and engineer.

Korobov studied in Belgium and Holland on a grant from Peter I from 1718 to 1727. In St. Petersburg he rebuilt the Admiralty in the style of early Russian baroque and constructed Partikuliarnaia Wharf on the Fontanka Canal (begun 1735; later dismantled) and possibly the Church of St. Panteleimon (1735-39). He contributed to the first Russian architectural treatise and code. In 1741 Korobov began working in Moscow, where he trained a number of well-known architects, including S. I. Chevakinskii, A. F. Kokorinov, and D. V. Ukhtomskii.
