The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Kuangchou Bay

a bay in the South China Sea on the shores of China (Kwangtung Province), between Luichow Peninsula and the island of Tunghaitao. It is 20 km long and about 2 km wide at the entrance. In depth it is 7–13 m. It has many anchorages that are well-protected from winds and waves to which access is hampered by sandbanks. The shores are mostly low-lying and sandy. The tides are mixed; they are more than 2 m high. A large port is Chanchiang.
