Kuter, Lawrence Sherman

Kuter, Lawrence Sherman

(1905–79) aviator; born in Rockford, Ill. A 1927 West Point graduate, he transferred to the Air Corps in 1930 and rose to command a bomber wing in England (1942–43). He held a series of senior commands during the 1950s, including the North American Air Defense Command. He retired in 1962 to become a vice-president of Pan American World Airways, and later, a consultant to the aviation industry.
