Labor Education Colony

 

prior to 1964 in the USSR, an institution that kept unsupervised children as well as adolescents aged 11 to 17 who had committed petty crimes not warranting criminal prosecution. The goal of the labor education colonies was to remove such juveniles from negative influences and to provide them with an education and occupational and labor training. Since 1964 the educational institutions responsible for the correct rearing of such minors have been special schools and special vocational-technical schools.
