From the collected specimens of gamasid mites in the above field investigation, a new species associated with red spiny rat (Maxomys surifer Miller, 1900) in Laelapidae was identified and named as Laelaps jinghaensis sp.

His wife, Procris, was a favorite of Artemis, and received from her a dog, Laelaps ("Hurricane"), and a javelin that would never miss its mark.
Laelaps literally means ~Hurricane' but Golding has mistranslated it as ~Spring' because Regius begins his note discursively, ~a velocitate atque impetu sic est appellata' before going on to explain that the name denotes a storm, ~turbinem signat'.
From Corrientes Province, only the mite Laelaps manguinhosi Fonseca has been reported parasitizing sigmodontine rodents (Lareschi et al., 2001), and no rodent fleas have been reported in the literature.
