Lake Maria State Park
Location:Access via Highway 39 and Wright County Road 1 from the south; from the
north, take Highway 8 to Highway 39 and Wright County Road.
Facilities:17 secluded backpack campsites, 2 group camps, 3 remote ski-in/walk-in
camper cabins, flush toilets (é), picnic area (é), enclosed picnic
shelter (é), hiking trails (14 miles), self-guided trail (1.5 miles),
horse trails (6 miles), ski trails (14 miles), skate-ski trail (2
miles), snowshoe rentals, warming house, fishing pier, boat launch,
boat and canoe rentals, visitor center (é), interpretive exhibits,
gift shop.
Activities:Camping, lake fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing.
Special Features:Park includes one of the few remaining stands of the "Big Woods," a
maple, oak, and basswood forest that once covered part of southern
Minnesota. The park is also home to the Blandings turtle, one of
Minnesota's threatened species.
