In west-central KS, northeast of Garden City; organized Mar 6, 1873 from Finney County. Name Origin: For Col. James Henry Lane (1814-66), officer in the Mexican-American War, U.S. representative from IN (1853-55), and first U.S. senator from KS (1861-66)
