Langmuir circulation
[′laŋ·myür ‚sər·kŋə‚lā·shən] (oceanography)
A form of motion found in the near-surface layer of lakes and oceans under windy conditions, and observed as streaks of bubbles, seaweed, or flotsam forming into lines running roughly parallel to the wind, called windrows.
