Based on N-terminal sequence analysis, Leaf-nosed viper [alpha]A chain showed maximum sequence similarity (93.3%) with [alpha]A chain from Sindhi krait (Bungarus sindanus sindanus), followed by Indian cobra (Naja naja), Texas indigo snake (Drymarchon melanurus erebennus) and Black-banded sea krait (
Laticauda semifasciata) where 90% similarity was observed.
The most abundant species was Sicydium altum, which accounted for 31 % of the entire catch, followed by Astyanax aeneus, with 27 %, Agonostomus monticola with 13 %, Poecilia gillii 5 %, Brycon costaricensis 4 %, Rhamdia
laticauda 3 %, Pomadasys crocro 2 %, Atherinella milleri 2 %, Roeboides bouchelei 1.6 %, and Joturus pichardi 1.5 %.

The researchers found the same to be true for a similar banded sea snake species called sea kraits (
Laticauda saintgironsi and
Laticauda aggregate), which live in more pristine bays in Noum`a.
McCarthy (1987) proposed that the relatively simple scale microornamentation in sea snakes (
Laticauda colubrina: brachylamellate basally, cellular polygonal imbricate apically; McCarthy 1987, Price and Kelly, 1989) when compared to the relatively more complex microornamentation of terrestrial elapids was "perhaps connected with an anti-fouling strategy".

Explaining the find a day after the conclusions were published in the PLOS ONE scientific journal, they said the eight vertebrae they recovered belong to a new species they named ''Leinkupal
laticauda.'' That's a combination of native Mapuche words for ''vanishing'' and ''family,'' and Latin words for ''wide'' and ''tail.''
Washington, May 15 ( ANI ): Researchers have discovered a new sauropod dinosaur species, Leinkupal
laticauda, in Argentina which may be the first record of a diplodocid from South America and the youngest record of Diplodocidae in the world.
