League of Regeneration of the Church
(Church Regeneration), one of the primary groups of a renewal movement (seeRENOVATIONISTS) in the Russian Orthodox Church after the October Revolution of 1917. The league was founded in 1922. Its members set as their goal the renovation of the church, that is, its adaptation to the changed political conditions; they advocated a loyal attitude to Soviet power. The league ceased to exist (along with all other renovationist groups) after the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.
