Lee, Fitzhugh
(1835–1905) soldier; born in Fairfax County, Va. (nephew of Robert E. Lee). An 1856 West Point graduate, he led Confederate cavalry in the Virginia theater during the Civil War. He was governor of Virginia (1886–90), U.S. consul general to Cuba (1896–98), and commanded the U.S. VII Corps in Cuba following the Spanish-American War (1899–1901).
